I was buying factory loads (I believe these were 180 grain) but mostly so I would have a supply of brass.

I also was impressed with how accurate these single shot pistol were. I got one of his custom Thompson Contenders in his 30 GNR and it was awesome, back when he still had a shop down here in Florida (Sarasota). I've always loved the versatility of a 35 cal round, just so many possibilities for loading up and down.

With Remington not playing nice by not selling the 200 grain RNSPCL for reloaders ( SHAME on them), the 357 max, with its handgun bullets has an edge in expansion at longer ranges.

(If factory ammo is ever going to be a concern for you, that basically rules out the 357 MAX.) I have zero experience with the 357 MAX but years ago I hunted with my buddy who had a TC handgun chambered for 357 Herritt. I'll get a better idea on the 35's performance this year. This wildcat cartridge is formed by shortening a 30-30 case and enlarging the neck to accept 35 caliber bullets. My Savage 170B will hopefully get some blood on her. My Savage 170B will hopefully get some blood on her.

The 200 grain Core Lokt at 2100 fps made her face from the eyeballs forward... The 200 grain Core Lokt at 2100 fps made her face from the eyeballs forward... While it would seem intuitive to use the rimmed version of the 35 Remington, formed from 303 British brass, that's not actually what I'm doing.

I'm turning the rim off and cutting in an extractor groove, (well, technically a good friend of mine is doing that!

I like the fact that the 35 Remington has room for both pistol powders and slow burning rifle powders. Were it not for an unfriendly trigger, I believe she would be a sub inch rifle. Personally, if I was set on getting a 24" barrel for my Encore frame, I would definitely go with the 35 Remington chambering.

I have had good to very good results with just about any load I have put in to this gun. It simply holds more powder and can push a 200gr bullet faster than the MAX can push 180's.

44Guy, What kind of expansion are you getting with factory/ handloads with 200's? In a shorter barrel, the advantages aren't as distinct.
